Description
New York is my favorite city in the world – a place that has a life of its own, inhabited by millions who strive to pursue their dreams. But if, like me, you’re prone to comparisons and self-doubt, it’s a place can make your mind wander, sometimes going to dark places.
I’ll take my usual commute to Penn Station and make my way downstairs to the subway. As endless streams of people pass me by, I imagine their lives, hopes, fears, and successes. And sometimes, I ruminate on my own life, wonder what I’ve missed out on, and fear the worst.
But sometimes I can take a deep breath, remind myself that I, too, am pursuing my dreams in this great city. I get on my train to make that happen.
“34th Street Station” is a piece about New York and embracing your place in it, despite the FOMO it brings on.
Lyrics
(Ride on.)
There will always be a sliding door
and I will always wonder
What’s beyond?
Who’s it for?
And will I, on the other side,
still look through?
I let the door shut
I close my eyes
and ride on.
