As Morris County, NJ’s Digital Media Manager, I wear many hats, including web design, UX research, development, project management, video production, social media promotion, and anything else the County needs for a successful web presence. I maintain over 20 websites for the county and have done a full redesign of most, including new WordPress installations. While I freelance from time to time, my focus is on Morris County. I am the current co-chair of the Government Web Professionals of New Jersey.
This site was redesigned from the ground up, with user experience and accessibility in mind. After research and user testing, the result is a site that is simple to navigate and easy to understand, written in plain language.
2012 NAGW Pinnacle Award winner. The Human Services Department offers a plethora of services, and their old site made resources hard to find. Our goal was to make a very easy to navigate, responsive site that anyone would be able to use without problems. Fonts and colors were chosen carefully to get the Department’s mission across.
This site was originally designed by a third party and used tables and an abundance of images. Since a new County Clerk was elected, we wanted to get her goals of modernizing the office and reaching out to constituents. A clean, bright theme was chosen. Many edits were made to this theme, from fonts to colors to errors in the back-end code itself. An extensive content review and extensive testing has made this site one of my most successful.
Another third-party site with tables, I needed to essentially re-create the existing layout using modern code standards. I used the skeleton.css grid framework to lay out the site, included webfonts instead of images, and made sure that the site was responsive. The page speed has vastly increased, as has our visitor count.
